01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Izakaya Asano in Nishi-Ogu is known for its unpretentious cooking and attentive owner. Familiar dishes such as chilled tofu (hiyakko) and potato salad evoke home-cooked cooking, creating a comfortable environment whether stopping by alone or meeting with friends.
The menu ranges from affordable side dishes to hearty fried and grilled specialties. A deep fryer turns out fried treats to accompany drinks, including maitake mushroom, lotus root, and Japanese whiting tempura, as well as thick-cut ham cutlets and crisp fried mountain yam. Diners can also choose according to their appetite from tuna sashimi, whale bacon, ginger-fried pork, and katsuni (simmered pork cutlet in broth).
Drink choices cover draft beer, Kakubin whisky highballs, assorted sours, sake, and shochu by the bottle. Asano operates from 16:00 to 23:00 every day except Tuesday, when it is closed. Advance reservations are accepted. Payment is by cash only, so make sure to bring enough yen.
